The professional baseball season is fast approaching. That means warm weather is on the horizon for a Chicago Cubs fan living in the Chicagoland area like myself. This post isn’t about the big leagues though, it’s about the minor leagues. Minor League baseball teams have always impressed me with their creative naming and logo designs. Here’s a sampling of my favorite logos. If you want to find out about a specific team, I’ve included a link to each organization’s web page. Simply click on the name. Also, if you’d like a comprehesive list of all the Minor League baseball teams you can visit their website at minorleaguebaseball.com.
This list is presented in alphabetical order. However, my three favorites are the Cedar Rapids Kernels, Trenton Thunder, and Williamsport Crosscutters. (Honorable mention goes to the Connecticut Defenders.)
Brevard County Manatees – Class A Advanced Affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers

Buffalo Bisons - Triple A Affiliate of the New York Mets

Cedar Rapids Kernels – Class A Affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels

Charlotte Stone Crabs – Class A Advanced Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays

Colorado Springs Sky Sox – Triple A Affiliate of the Colorado Rockies

Columbus Clippers – Triple A Affiliate of the Cleveland Indians

Connecticut Defenders – Double A Affiliate of the San Francisco Giants (Now the Flying Squirrels, but still a cool logo!)

Fresno Grizzlies – Triple A Affiliate of the San Francisco Giants

Lancaster Jethawks – Class A Affiliate of the Houston Astros

Lehigh Valley Ironpigs – Triple A Affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies

Modesto Nuts – Class A Advanced Affiliate of the Colorado Rockies

New Britain Rock Cats – Double A Affiliate of the Minnesota Twins

Quad Cities River Bandits – Class A Affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals

Richmond Flying Squirrels – Double A Affiliate of the San Francisco Giants

Sacramento River Cats – Triple A Affiliate of the Oakland A’s

State College Spikes – Class A Affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates

Syracuse Chiefs – Triple A Affiliate of the Washington Nationals

Toledo Mud Hens – Triple A Affiliate of the Detroit Tigers

Trenton Thunder – Double A Affiliate of the New York Yankees

Tulsa Drillers – Double A Affiliate of the Colorado Rockies

Vermont Lake Monsters – Class A Affiliate of the Washington Nationals

West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx – Double A Affiliate of the Seattle Mariners

Williamsport Crosscutters – Class A Affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies

Wilmington Blue Rocks – Class A Affiliate of the Kansas City Royals

Are there any good ones that I’m missing?

David, Thanks for including the Trenton Thunder on your list and in your top 3! We changed the logo a couple years ago and the feedback has been excellent. I must inform you that the Connecticut Defenders are no longer a team – they’ve moved to Richmond, VA and became the Flying Squirrels.
Thanks again.

Bill, I updated the post and added a comment about the Defenders. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. You guys do have a very nice looking logo. I like the simplicity of it compared to some of the others.

Well they haven’t played a game since 2006, but I’ve always liked the San Diego Surf Dawgs logo from the Independent Golden Baseball League. The league has held on to slim hope of reviving the team, I think in part because the logo was so popular: http://www.caproparks.com/index.cfm/blog_22.htm.

David, Great round-up of logos. Being a Diamondback’s fan, I’d have to say my favorite is the Yakima Bears logo.
